Continued Restrictions on Routine American Citizen Services

Location: Somalia

Event: Due to the rise of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, and in line with the protocols of the U.S. Department of State and the Kenyan government, the American Citizen Services Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi extended the closure for Consular Report of Birth Abroad and notarial appointments from Monday, December 20, 2021 until Monday, January 10, 2022.  We will also be closed during our designated passport pick up time on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and during our document drop off time on Thursdays from 1:00-2:00 p.m.

If you have an appointment during that time and receive an email cancelling your appointment, the U.S. Embassy will work to prioritize rescheduling your appointment to late January, when we aim to resume routine consular services.  We look forward to returning to normal operations and we appreciate your patience.

If a U.S. citizen needs assistance, including a request for an emergency appointment, please send an email to Kenya_ACS@state.gov.  Please note that the U.S. Department of State defines an emergency necessitating an immediate appointment as involving a serious illness, injury, or death in an immediate family that requires travel within 72 hours (3 days).

If a U.S. citizen is reporting a life-or-death emergency, please dial +254 20 363 6451.

Actions to TakeWe strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Kenya enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP).  STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy or nearest U.S. Consulate to contact you in an emergency.
