The United States strongly condemns the utterly senseless and barbaric car bomb attack in Abagedo market in Mogadishu February 19, which killed more than three dozen people and injured dozens more. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those killed and express hope for a speedy and complete recovery of the wounded. Innocent Somali citizens continue to bear the brunt of vicious attacks but, as the recent conclusion of a peaceful electoral process and transition of power demonstrates, the terrorists will not succeed. The United States will continue to work with the people of Somalia and with President Farmaajo’s new administration to help restore peace and security throughout the country.
