Routine Consular Services
Ahead of the busy summer travel season, we advise all U.S. citizens in Somalia to check the expiration date of their passport and, if necessary, to click here to make an appointment for routine passport renewal services in Nairobi, Kenya. We are currently experiencing a one month wait time for renewals. The wait time will increase in the coming months. Please plan accordingly.
Make sure to come prepared and on time with the completed application(s) from here, including a 2×2 inch photo on white background to attach to your application(s). Please do not wear glasses in the photo. Failure to present on time for an appointment or having an incomplete application will result in you not being seen for your appointment.
Please be prepared to pay the appropriate fees. You can click here for an updated list of passport fees. Please note that fees can be paid in Kenyan Shillings, U.S. Dollars, or by credit card. We cannot accept M-Pesa and/or checks.
If the following apply to your previous U.S. passport:
- You have your U.S. passport in your possession
- That passport is in good condition
- That passport has a 10-year validity
Then you may be eligible to use form DS-82 for your renewal. Please find more information here. You can come to the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi on Fridays from 7:00-9:00 a.m. (excluding U.S. and Kenyan holidays) to pay and drop off the DS-82 Application and your documentation. This is open to DS-82s only.
You must fill out your DS-82 Application using the online filler here. A handwritten or printed DS-82 not using the online filler will not be accepted and you will be turned away at the intake window.
